toward being multicultural

I admire cities like London, Paris, Amsterdam which are very colorful. A lot of very different people with very different origins. I took this photo yesterday in a mall. The little Asian (with my European eyes I can't recognize if she is Chinese, Japanese or Korean or....) girl was so obsessed with the helicopter that she even didn't see me taking photo of her. I asked the permission from her mommy who was smiling proudly. We have some Chinese people in Budapest but I wouldn't say Hungary is multicultural already. Its still a big deal to see Asian or African people and any time I can hear them speaking our very difficult language fluently I feel like woww!...Its a sort of honour...

Oh, she is so excited on flying that helicopter. Lovely catch. :)

In Helsinki I guess here people are used to foreigners and I think here is quite much folks from different cultures, but, oh yes, multiculturality is a far away. On the streets you can hear finnish and swedish ofcourse, russian, estonian, somalian, hindi, chinese, french.. And japanese and german from tourists.

I don't know how it feels to be foreigner here: some people may react harsh, but at least it is quite easy to get service or help in english.

In Budapest I noticed people doesn't know english that much: at many situations I could have service on german or russian, but I don't know those languages.. Or maybe I was in wrong places?

Luckily I teached myself a couple of words of hungarian, but I have already forgotten everything.. except: Közsönöm! :)

Can't tell the ethnic origin of this little girl, but then I can never tell one East Asian from another, and I've been asked if I'm Chinese, Viet Namese, or Hawaiian (that I can remember), but does it matter much any more? She's probably Hugarian. Yay!
